A few words about the Sality virus
Since 2003, Sality has created havoc within the community through its
rapid deployment in network environments. As time passed, it has become
stealthier as well as deadlier.
It attacks the executable files
found in the system and then provides hackers with personal and
sensitive data in order to gain information regarding protected
accounts.
Kaspersky is one of the antivirus companies that has
released a specialized tool to deal with the removal of Sality and
that’s how SalityKiller was created. While this specific malware can
also be taken care of manually, the vast majority of users prefer
software solutions. AVG is yet another company that created a special
Sality cleaning tool and other antivirus solutions can also detect it.
Command-line interface
SalityKiller features a
command-prompt interface requiring the least knowledge when it comes to
running the program with command-line parameters. The options that are
brought to the table range from the simple scanning of specific folders
to complete system scanning and even a monitoring mode.
Bottom line
While
not being the perfect Sality removal tool, SalityKiller can help you
get rid of the mess that this peculiar malicious code brings to your
system as a first step into a larger scheme that also comprises serious
antivirus software to be deployed and regularly updated. There is always
better to prevent any infection rather than treating it and
SalityKiller is that starter pill once the line of defense has been
overrun.
I have used AVG protection for a number of years now, I'd recommend this solution to everybody.
